totally destroyed
so i totally destroyed my model/view contact list implementation. it doesn't even compile now. such is progress, right?
I want your stuff!
I noticed earlier today that somebody posted an OTR plugin for Kopete on KDE-Look, and I saw several other cool things on KDE-Apps. So, if you've done some code for Kopete, I want to see it. Either send me an email, IM me on Jabber (mattr@kde.org for both email and jabber) or leave a comment on where I can find your cool Kopete stuff, and you may just wind up getting asked to refine and polish your stuff for Kopete in KDE 4.
now with names and icons!
The new model view stuff for Kopete is coming along quite nicely. We have metacontact names and icons now.
Next is to figure out how to get the metacontacts to display the contact icon or the generic head icon correctly rather than the question mark icon there. Another screenshot (the blurring of the names is my doing, and i didn't blur my own name.)

well, that was way easier than i expected
ok, so i just finished the most basic port of kopete to the model view stuff for Qt 4. It was stupid easy. I had a completely broken (but still displaying info) view in like two hours.
Obligatory screenshot is below. Only one of my test accounts is shown. Massively broken but still cool.

getting ready to get back into the game
So, after what seems like a long time of not really doing any KDE related work, I'm about ready to get back into it full swing. I ended up having to make a sort of recommittment to my "Getting Things Done" system in order to get to this point (that's what i've been doing while I've been largely inactive) but I think I'll end up being more productive this way.
One of the things that I've ended up doing is basically giving up IRC (again. I tried this last time but didn't follow through with it) except in rare circumstances like online developer meetings, etc. IRC is just way too much of a drain on my productivity. I will however, be on IM more, and will be glad to give out my contact information to anybody who asks for it. And of course, there's always email.
that didn’t take long
the store i took my mac to had all the parts available and so my laptop was repaired and ready for me to pick on wednesday after taking it in on tuesday. Maybe I'll do that Mac OS X testing sooner than I thought I would be able to.
