this originally was going to be a post about how a piece of hardware was not working after i had accidentally dropped the laptop bag it was in from about 3 feet off the floor onto the concrete floor in the garage. Just plugged it in again and now it works.
Moral of the story: blog about failing hardware before giving up on it. It may just come back to life.
