Who wants to be a Kopete developer?
You should all be jumping up and down screaming "I do! I do!" right now.
Yup, Kopete could use some more developers. I changed my mind and decided that we should release it with KDE 4.0 after all and it could use some help getting in shape. I have all sorts of tasks to do, and i'm sure the other developers do as well, so just send me an email (mattr@kde.org) or email kopete-devel@kde.org if you're interested and we'll get you hooked up.
If you're wondering what sort of skills you need, C++ is the minimum requirement as long as you're willing to learn the Qt and KDE APIs. If you've already started learning or already know the Qt and KDE APIs then you're a step ahead of the game.
The last time I did this, it was a huge success. Hopefully this time will be too. Thanks for your interest.
Trolltech Dev Days for me?
I let work know a few weeks ago about Trolltech's Developer Days thing that's coming up the first week of October. Since we're in the process of migrating our text-based interfaces to Qt, it seems like a good thing to send some people to. Today I put together a summary of stuff for my manager about how much it costs, etc. So, I might be going, or I might not. I want to go though. IMO, it makes sense for me to go, since I'm the Qt SME (subject matter expert) at work, and I'll most likely be giving training sessions to everybody else.
Besides, Aaron Seigo is going to be there, why would you not want to go?
look at what my macbook can do!
When I first got my macbook back in december, nearly the first thing I did after getting OS X all set up with applications and stuff was to make room for linux. About two days later, I was taking linux off because at the time, it couldn't handle two things that are essential: suspend to ram and wireless.
Every now and then, I take a bit of time to download a live cd of a distribution and give it the macbook another go around on linux. This time I went for Kubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5. I didn't try the wireless, but i did try suspend to ram. I was pretty atonished (and pleased) when:
suspend to ram actually worked from the live cd
I almost didn't believe what I was seeing. Put the laptop to sleep (used 'echo "mem" > /sys/power/state' or whatever it is), let it sleep for a few minutes, woke the laptop back up, and everything came back, even the X display with the backlight.
Clear one hurdle for linux on my macbook. Now I need to try the wireless. Maybe I'll do that this weekend.
Extra GB keeps away the disk thrashing
I added a 1GB of memory to my Macbook this weekend. Now the thing is super fast (and still very shiny). Where as before, I was frequently using a GB of swap and occasionally 2GB for larger compiles, I'm now using only 64MB. It's made using this thing really quite enjoyable.
Now, if someone knows a linux distribution that does suspend to ram on this thing reliably (i.e. I can close and open the laptop lid a dozen times a day and it comes back every time), then I can seriously think about making some room for Linux on this thing.
